Can anybody advise me where I can buy the gasket which goes between the bowl and the body of the carb. on my 1964 235 Lodola. Somebody has used some sort of red sealer which has melted and allowed petrol to drain onto the carpet tiles in my garage. It stinks and her indoors is not happy!!!! Thanks

There are definitely some Lodola experts around here, but whilst we wait for them, is there anything that catches your eye here?: https://www.dellorto.co.uk/product-category/dellorto-motorcycle-carburettors-parts/dellorto-vintage-carburettors-and-parts/ub-mb-parts/

Any possibility of making one from some sheet? It won't be easy, but if all else fails....

I think it will be difficult. The bowel sits in a groove in the body as you know. The groove is narrow.
They must be available? |

Do you know what model of carb it is? Much easier to search with a bit of information. Most Dellorto carbs have the model and venturi size stamped on the body somewhere. Your photo doesn't show on my computer........

So more like a thin O ring?
You could make one up using petrol proof silicone gasket sealant. Run a bead round the groove, smooth it off and let it set, then fit the bowl. Bear in mind I'm only going by what I can see in the photo and what you say.

You used to be able to get O ring material (round section viton / rubber etc) that you cut to length with a single sided razor then stuck with superglue.
In fact you still can: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/seal-o-ring-kits/0136601/ but you don't need the kit, only the cord. There will be other suppliers. <edit> eg here: https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Seals-O-Ring-Cord/c19_4549/index.html?page=1 </edit> |

Thanks guys. I will investigate both of your suggestions.
According to the handbook the carb is a Dellorto UB 22 BS 2A. |

Euro Carbs do a gasket kit, and sell the float bowl gasket - https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/dellorto-motorcycle-carburettors-parts/dellorto-vintage-carburettors-and-parts/ub-mb-parts/float-bowl-gasket-2/
Give them a call, I've found them helpful in the past.

Thanks. The gasket I need is the gasket between the removable bowl and the body. The one that is held onto the body with the knurled nut hung off a metal bracket that swings into place when the bowl is in position. You can see it in my photograph. |

Take a look at the diagram which is on the page that you were linked to earlier, if you haven't already. That will surely help you to identify the part you require. If you can identify it by number from that diagram, the chaps at Eurocarb are knowledgeable and helpful and will surely be able to tell you what they have, or perhaps what part is equivalent.

The part I need is not shown on the diagram. If you look on my original post you will see at the bottom of the carb a removable bowl. Its held on with a knurled but on a couple of hangers which swings down below the bowl and is then tightened to hold the bowl tight to the body. Its the gasket between this and the body I need.

Adam, italianmotor, had the same problem a while back. There is a post on the MGCGB site http://www.motoguzziclub.co.uk/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=17894
Seems he made one from cork.

Hi Nick, thank you for this. I spoke with Ducatipaddy who is a specialist with carbs and he tells me the part is not available. He suggested 1mm cork or even tyre inner tube. What ever I run with, cutting it will not be simple. I think cork will be easier but presumably I need gasket quality sheet. I will try to see if I can get a fibre washer but I doubt it!! |
