Could it be some sort of cover piece to go between the locknut for the swing arm mounting pin and the frame?
Can't see anything like it on the spare parts manual and still doesn't explain why there is only one of them, unless the other had been lost previously.

I can’t tell the size but it does look uncannily like the bearing cover that sits beneath the top yoke. Now this is a long way from the swinging arm.

Thoughts???

Thanks. Is it the cover for the top yoke bearing you are referring to?

Yep, that’s the jobbie. Just checked my T3 Haynes manual. Nowt like it anywhere near the swinging arm. Dunno about your convert though??
I can’t imagine that there would be a significant difference though.

It's a mystery right enough, but I'm happy it's not a structural part or a sealing ring. It's more of a cosmetic cover piece, but where from I have no idea, but thanks for all the help.

Never seen anything like this when I've taken Tonti swingarms apart.

Heres a theory: The PO lost it and its been sitting on the swinging arm, up at the front end, covered in road muck etc. ever since. You removed the swinging arm and it fell off. Voila! You could call me Poirot, but I don't like Belgians generally

Yes possible! I notice it has black paint on it, may or may not mean something.

I've just rebuilt a few linkages for the XT and Dommie and they had covers so they did. That's where my confusion lay.

Yep stuff falls down past the battery and ends up lurking down in that area alright

Cheers
