Hi, after 50 years of polishing motorbikes it was with a little hesitation when I ordered my matt yellow V7 11 Stone. Now after 2 years the sides of my tank are starting to shine where my knees rub. If I were to Tcut the tank would it all shine like a gloss finish. Thanks Steve.

I don't know the answer but I would try a sample area under the tank to see what happens

You would have to be careful, you could go through the top coat.
You could also clean it and get it sprayed with clear gloss.

I think you can fix knee pads on the tank which might be safer than risking the cost of a respray?
V7 Classic Black and gold was the best. But green & black was nice too. Now blue is in!

I think Guzzi themselves do them for the V7 ii. Certainly used to list them in the accessories catalogue.

Hi Steve, if you polish it it will gloss up, the only way to maintain the flat finish for a year or two is to apply a Matt lacquer.
Washing, rubbing with knees etc will polish the matt finish up to a gloss over time. No way of avoiding it.

Steve,,when I was deciding which colour to buy I raised the possibility of the matt paint wearing with Moto Strada. They said that they could lacquer it if I wished (to pay for it). It's probably not too late.

Moto Strada offered to swop the matt yellow tank for a gloss black with the traditional orange stripe, it was that or a Guzzi rack as sweetener and I went for the rack. I looked on gutsibits for tank pads and they were £80. As soon as I get chance I'll try polishing the bit in front of and covered by the seat. Thanks for all the replies. Steve.

just had time to try a polish the tank in front of the seat and it looked OK, so in at the deep end and I gave the whole tank a gentle rub with T cut then Auto Glym. I am not going to try and kid anyone that it is now a high gloss finish more like a satin finish but at least it all looks the same tone. There were a few marks that would not wash off from my magnetic tank bag and general wear and tear but they have all polished off. It looks and even feels better. Thanks Steve.
