Excellent, have you decided on a route yet?

Well the route was decided by the weather..... and was, shall we say a zig zag that did not involve Italy or Spain in the end... just France.

We got back this morning - 2,500 faultless  miles covered ( thank you 1200 Sport Clap)
First went South - as it was stair-rods in the Alps
Then edged East towards the Alps - the stair rods decided to come West to meet us
We went West to South of Toulouse - the stair rods were forecast to vanish - we headed East back to Montpelier region - and got very very wet - so wet a hotel was required
We then went West again - thinking we may get into Spain

Then Brittany ferries cancelled our return from Spain, AND the rain in Spain was everywhere... so we headed slowly North, got comprehensively soaked yesterday and dumped at Portsmouth at 7:00am this morning.

All this said there were only 2 days when waterproofs were needed for most of the day, and only about 2 days when there was a risk that the sun cream would have to be broken out of the dry bag - the rest of the time it was cloudy with showers.

The highlights of the trip were the:
French National Parks - absolutely ace roads
Quality of the French tarmac. How is it they have so many more miles of tarmac than we do, much of it baking hot in the summer or ice covered in the winter, and it (and all the white lines) are maintained perfectly?
The lack of any other traffic of any kind - I could swear that I passed more stationary traffic on the M27 this morning that we saw in the whole 2 weeks in France.

Oh and there were no posts of the trip to both save your boredom... and because Virgin decided not to allow roaming on the phone... and the phone's battery decided this was the time to totally die.

As long as you enjoyed it.

The only thing you have to watch for on French roads is that sign saying "Gravillons" which means that the road ahead has been covered with 6mm ball bearings.
Oh and the odd combine harvester coming the other way at harvest time.

agreed on the ball bearings Brian... that said this time there weren't any!
... and we were a bit early for the combine harvesters, though the workers still have a carafe of wine with their lunches .... then drive back to work

Most workers lunches now only include 1/4 litre of wine!

If you're not going anywhere in the afternoon, you can get an excellent 3 course meal plus wine at most bars for around €12.
