ES2 coming along: Starting and running well thanks to fitting a 3.5 cutaway rather then the specified 4. I suspect the original was for economy rather than performance. Still a few jobs to get it on the road so I can assess what needs to be done over the winter apart from cosmetics. But so far I'm pleased with progress. Edited by iansoady - 09 Aug 2018 at 15:09 |

Here’s a tale; put my AJS up for sale and had an enquiry from a gent who’s name was was the same as a previous owner in the buff log book. A bit of checking and it turns out he actually was the third owner, so naturally he would like to buy the bike. For £500 less than the (fair) asking price.

ES2 and Performance are not two things I would have put together.

In their day, they were seen as a sporting single but by the time mine was made they were outclassed by the parallel twins. A chap called Mike Pemberton has made some of them fly but I wouldn't want the Norton to be faster than the V50..... |

Well the Manx and International went quite well, not really so different. I always liked the ES2.

I've always fancied a cammy Norton but the prices are ridiculous for what is essentially an ES2 with a leaky engine......

Had a spin on this recently and ended up trading my Deauville, I spent time on the brakes (seals and seized pistons) but reckon it needs a front Disc (warped). Steers well wet or dry , nice gear change and ratios a little asthmatic at the top end but plenty of low down grunt (unlike my 750 Breva!)
