I've posted another update but there's not been a lot of visible progress. I need those bits back from the platers.

Not been much action lately. More house DIY had to be done and I wasn't very well for a week.

Most of the chrome arrived back from the platers today but they've still got some bits they want to refinish. Off to Northumberland on hols (in the car) tomorrow then there's more DIY when I get back!

I was again reading this about restoring your V7,

I can't afford a genuine V7 sport, but I do have a lemon2 project, that I may just do as like a v7, of course it won't be genuine or even a good. Copy, just in the spirit of, if you know what I mean!

Great plan, Ian. Build something with the look and style of the V7Sport but without its shortcomings. The original V7Sport was a good bike but has some issues when used today. The front brake look impressive but needs a lot of care in setting it up to get any good performance. Disks are much more reliable. The short stroke 750 engine with its lumpy camshaft can be hard work in traffic, switchgear is ridiculous and the exhaust system is really quiet!

Having said that, I'll never willingly get rid of mine and am looking forward to wrestling with it again, right hand gearchange and all.

However, I also have my 850 engined S3 with its V7sport bars and this has turned out to be much nicer to ride. I do intend to do some work on it eventually but it'll stay an 850 and, although I've been tempted to sell it to finance the purchase of a loop frame model, I'll most likely keep it as my main bike.

I can't find the photos of Dave Samways' faux V7Sport which I think was built out of a T3. Not an absolute copy with its wider forks etc but very nice.

Having had my recent accident, there won't be any work done on the V7Sport for a while. However, I've done a little update here http://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/racing-rhino-update/

There's also a post about the S3 http://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/too-much-excitement/

Hello John, I've enjoyed your write ups, thanks for taking the trouble to create them.

Do you have a source for the VIN plate rivets please? I carefully ground off my rivet heads with a Dremel and managed to take the plate off unmarked prior to powder coating the frame.

Sorry to hear about your off, it sounds really painful, fingers crossed you will repair as well as the bikes you fettle.

GWS

Brian

If you can't find them thro a Guzzi dealership any Norton dealer will have them in stock , ie - Mick Hemmings - RGM - Fair Spares .

I've got loads spare as there was a minimum order of 50 and I bought 2 sizes (No 0 and No 2). PM me your address and I'll send you some of each size. You'll probably need the smallest ones. I had to go up a size 'cos I'd drilled them out. Drill sizes are peculiar too. You  can find info on them if you google "Type U Hammer drive screws".

Hi John. Nice blog. Very well documented build. Looking forward to your updates.

Your V7 Sport rebuild is being featured in the BikeBuilds.net

We’re currently displaying only a reduced-size photo (similar to what you’d find in Google
Images). We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your
build listing.

If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just send me a message with a link to
the build thread and we’ll take care of the rest.

Al

That's fine, publish away!

Haven't done anything on the sport for what seems like ages. I'm having problems getting the movement back in my wrist. Started pulling the loopframe V7 to bits looking at dodgy wiring etc.

Well it's been a long ol' time since I've done any more work on the V7Sport. What with breaking my wrist, buying the V7 loop and doing some work on that so I can use it.

Today I had to pull the partly rebuilt bike apart so I could refit the clutch plates the right way round! https://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/the-clutch-again-30-apr-2015. Muppetry.

Yesterday I fitted the front forks to my V7Sport rebuild project. I feel like I'm making progress again.

Starting to take shape. Not long now then. Wink
