Anyone had a go at tidying up the cases / panniers as fitted to the Cali 2? Mine have a little too much 'patina', and basically look sun-worn and very tired. I've tried the various plastics lotions (e.g. Armorall Protectant), but these boxes seem past all that. Wondered if anyone has used any kind of paint to give them back their original lustre, or something close.

I have no idea what material they are made of, but one of my T3 Cali panniers was faded and grubby. I tried a few automotive products to lift their fade (I practiced on a broken one)and something called 'Back to Black' did the job - basically something that is designed to revive black plastic/abs (bumpers, for example) on cars.
Might help. Edited by Barry - 02 Jul 2020 at 20:28 |

No t cut won't work it actually looks awful I did mine, when i had them with black boot polish, took forever, but that was over 20 yrs ago, the back to black plastic bumper stuff works The Cali 2 boxes are a type of plastic that can be plastic welded .

I remember reading about this years ago on a now defunct forum but google does bring up some examples although I've never had to use this method so you're on your own if it doesn't work.....
Hot air gun apparently , obviously practice on an invisible area first ...

Well thanks all for your valued input. I've never heard of the Owatrol stuff, so being a new-things tart I've now ordered a tin! In the meantime, I'll have a cheeky wave of the hot air gun and see what occurs... Responsibility disclaimer fully noted, but I'm sure these panniers are fireproof. Aren't they?

I've used this stuff for years on bikes and cars. It's very good.

Don't skimp on polytrol heavy even coat leave it a few minutes then wipe it over. I have used it on tones of stuff it made my pink truck red again and sealed the paint up so it was easy to wash after aswell.

Decided in the end to use Hycote black bumper paint, and finished off with the Car Plan black trim wax on the plastic strip. Both good results. Bought a 1 litre tin of Owatrol Polytrol, but haven't used it yet - I'm sure it must be good, or at least I hope so at the price... Re did the eagle using liquid chrome pen, which always gives a very pleasing finish.
