It's the indignation that stings.

You do nothing wrong (as far as you're concerned) and some tw*t decides to use their advantage (usually white van / bus / lorry) to get one over on you.

I'm sure we can all remember occassions even at schol when you get told off for something you didn't do, and your internal rage of how unfair it all was.  The inability to settle the score continues to sting for quite a while.

Better for your long term health to avoid it all together (if you can).

Been a lot of car horn tooting along my road this last week. Exactly coincident with the average temperature. Normally never happens.

The A46 from the M1 is very busy due to the massive road works on the M1 north at J23......in the heat on the Guzzi I filter most nights rarely have any issues in fact many drivers actually do move over to create a larger gap ...I find a Thank you wave seems to set others off doing the same, the air cooled engine works better if it can keep some forward motion ..... happily I invested in hot weather riding stuff when we went to Florida and it makes a huge difference

One place when I don't accept "filtering".

Went on the freey Newhaven to Dieppe in the car. You have to clear the french passport check in Dieppe when you get off the boat, and they can be quite slow.
So in the queue and a group of bikers "filtered" to the front, then about 18 cyclists did the same. Caused the rest of us a 10 or 15 minute delay. It takes just as long if not longer for a biker to get his passport checked, probably longer after he's managed to find it then stow it away before leaving.Angry
Brian.

Better 5 minutes late in this world than years early in the next.

It's  contentious issue...I did spell that right.  Mind you, the filtering I do (or did for years as a suicidal courier) is nowt compared with the barking mad antics of the boys n girls in the big smoke years ago. I moved out of their way!

Happens regularly in the queue to check in for the IOM ferry at Heysham. Not only extemely annoying but really doesn't enhance the reputation of motorcyclists (and the cyclists who do it). They get loaded separately from the cars anyway so what do they gain?

It is when I am in the car doing 65mph in the r/h lane overtaking a vehicle in the lane to the left doing 60mph and a bike 'Filters' between us doing 80mph that I think it is no wonder that the average motorist thinks we are all mindless idiot's.

I’ll always filter, and probably at any speed the traffic is doing up to maybe around 40 on dual track. And that’s one reason I wouldn’t ever have mega box panniers on the back. Converse to this experience I’ve thought that more people tend to actively try and get out of the way than used to. I filter with high beam on, and Hardley on open pipes is definitely the better bike for it. I don’t remember when I was last noticeably purposely blocked, but there are plenty of half-wits who meander this way and that, along with the moment’s notice lane swappers who just need that extra cars length that another lane might bring them.

Whether lane splitting or moving around stuff at junctions I try and ensure that I’m taking up free space, and not actually impeding anybody. So yeah, pushing a queue at passport control is just plain pushing the queue. I also keep a look out for faster bikes coming in from the rear when filtering and let them go by as required, it’s a pita when you get a slower one in front of you – on three lanes you end up swapping in to the lane 1 - 2 gap with all the trucks, overtaking and then getting back over in front of them.

I am impatient and belligerent but try and keep clear of any outright confrontation. Meanderers will get to hear the horn as I pass through. Worst I’ve done is drag the new can I’d fitted on Zed all down the front wing of a car that just drifted over as I passed. I kept going, but from the state of the can his wing must have been left quite nasty looking.

Sorry but filtering at 40mph isn't filtering. Have a look at Bike Lawyer from the MCN.

The moment that Cyclobutch "filtered" past me round a bend in the A120 on Hardley is forever etched in my memory.Thumbs Up

Sorry but regardless of the number of lanes or traffic conditions "filtering" through traffic at 40mph is not filtering, it's overtaking and plain stupid. Causing damage to other vehicles and not stopping, even by accident is an offence, not something to boast about.
