My 1999 EV has 4 chrome panels attached to the sides or the front mudguard.
Yesterday one panel  came off, the 4 stubs with a flat circlip have snapped off.

What is the general opinion on repair, gue the chrome onto the mudguard ?

Mine have slowly peeled away at various places. I was dripping some superglue im and clamping it. It keeps coming away so its no cure. But it works for now.  Later i might strip the whole mudguard as the paint is blistered too.  Not much help to you really..
Due to italian electrickery I am saying nowt. Despite nearly giving the Vstrom away the honda has gone...

The trouble with glue is that if it fails, it will likely happen when you're riding, and you may lose it, or run over it with the rear wheel.
Since one piece of the four has come off, maybe look for a mechanical fix for all of them as a preventative measure, then anything that showed, stainless screw-heads etc, would match.

best glue i have found is the Gorilla glue But it reacts with water so very careful when using the butterfly clips rust and rot so you do need to take mudguards off and replace these .....The pins on these are quite fragile ....these are the same things that hold the side panel badges on the older Tonti bikes they have a similar issue

My EV came with those chrome plastic strips being held on with small size split pins through the existing holes in the mudguard as the flat circlips fell off...might replace the s/pins with small size s/less steel screws sometime...

When one of mine came off I used automotive double sided sticky tape. You can get really thin stuff for number plates. It never moved after that.
