There's a guy on the Adventure Rider Forum (and others), username Xlrator.

He will send out maps if you contact him and ask nicely.
No charge, but it's good 'form' to offer a donation.
He'll decline it anyway, but may direct you to an Animal Conservation Charity his Daughter supports.

His maps are primarily for the two-Lambda Models, but he has adapted/modified some for the single-Lambdas.

He's reluctant to send those out yet though, as they've not been tested.
I'll be loading one to mine as soon as I get a chance, will report finding here.

He can also tailor them for your particular needs/desires, e.g. more economy, less 'pinging' on dodgy fuels, more accurate Speedo reading or Odometer reading (seems you can't have both for some reason), accurate mpg readout, etc.

If you go onto the ADV Rider Forum (tons of good stories/info/tips etc), there's been a lot of feedback about his Maps, and all highly positive.

Doc out!

Good to hear.

Finally got round to uploading the Map John Brooks sent me recently.

Didn’t know what to expect to be honest, as I’ve always felt the Map it’s had since I got it has been pretty good.

There’s definitely a slight improvement low down, it was OK before, no harshness, hesitation, or flat-spots anywhere, but it feels ‘crisper’ now right from 2000rpm.
It’s hard to describe, but it just feels a little more urgent when pulling away.
It pulls pretty well from 2000rpm in top, whereas before it was never really happy to do it from less than 3000.
I don’t make a habit of it, it’s just a little test I do when looking for faults in the fuelling.

Mid-range and top-end seems about the same, but it’s always difficult to notice small differences.

I still need to do a TB Balance, so there may be a little more smoothness to come still.

I need to tweak the Speedo correction figure still, it's still under-reading by 5mph or so.

Have you balanced the throttle bodies and reset the TPS?

As Brian says Trisaki, start with the basics.
Loading a different Map won't improve the running much if the Throttle Butterflies are out of synch, and/or the Throttle Position Sensor needs resetting.

Give it a full service first if it's getting close to needing it.
Air Filter condition and Valve Clearances particularly can affect low-speed running.
Worth running some Fuel additive/cleaner through it as well, to make sure dirty Injectors aren't affecting it.

I purchased my V1200 Sport with a Memjet box fitted by the previous owner

Bike has always been smooth from tick over to the redline on number six (out of 10 positions). Has anyone else got a Memjet, and what are their experiences, as I've not altered mine at all?

A lot of those 'plug-and-play' boxes do little more than richen the mixture at certain points, usually from idle, to the 4000rpm point, or thereabouts.
They usually work by 'fooling' the ECU into seeing a lower Intake temperature.

This can cause damage to the Engine, as the excess fuel washes the Oil Film off the Cylinder Walls, leading to Ring, Piston, and Bore wear.

Pete Roper hates them with a passion, and has posted several photos of knackered Engines that have had them fitted.

For me, fitting one instead of remapping, is like putting an extra couple of socks on because you have a stone in your Boot.
Remapping is the equivalent of simply removing the stone . . .

I'm not sure why anyone would pay £200+ for one when remapping costs so little.
If you have a Laptop, all you need is the Cable set from Lonelec (£25-30), everything else is free.
Even if you had to buy a cheap used Laptop, you'd still be better off.

To be fair it would have to be running very rich to wash the oil off the cylinder walls, rich to the point it wouldn't run too well. If it's running much better then the mixture must be about right, much the same as remapping.

And a word of warning about remapping. No problem if you know what you're doing, but if not, you could end up with a paperweight instead of an ECU.

Thanks for the replies. I've done 40,000 miles on the bike, and although it is used infrequently, when it is used it is for long rides of at least 50 miles without switching off the engine.

As for remaps, is there anyone to trust to do it? I have recently read an argument on  another forum regarding Hilltop Tuning, which throws the subject into doubt.

However, I did have my Saab remapped by an individual who has remapped hundreds and never heard of anyone that did not notice a vast difference in the before and after remap.

It's more reassuring if the persons work is known to be good.
