Hello all back to bore you all again with my T750 starting problems, my previous thread regarding fuel is sorted with all your help, I think, Thank You all.. when the engine is cold it seems she only starts on one cylinder and as you can imagine is difficult to keep running but as she warms up running on one cylinder and idles erratically all of a sudden you hear the engine note changes for the better as the second cylinder starts firing. New ignition coils and leads caps and plugs fitted to both sides.
Any ideas please again. Mallywoods

Sounds as if one float bowl is rather slow at filling up. Is the float sticking, is there any restriction in the fuel line?

Hello again all, with new ignition coils I am now checking wiring for continuity, security, pulling apart plug and spraying inside with electrical contact cleaner, how ever I cannot help thinking about the ignition amplifier Under the seat CDI I think. Would this cause an intermittent spark if faulty or do they just stop working completely, ????? last component in the system. still checking wires at the moment.
mallywoods , thanks all again.

Did you get or buy those ht neon testers ?
They go in between the plug cap and the plug so makes it SO easy to check sparks. Maybe clear fuel pipe to ensure fuel flow to carbs and a little tap on float chamber whilst running to shake a sticky float needle.

Yes Richard, I bought 4 of them, you are right they have proved invaluable during my testing we can see exactly what is going on, Ive had the tank of and cleaned all the electrical connectors plugs etc, still only one cylinder firing, transposed the CDIs and now I am firing on two cylinders, the CDIs are connected to one common earth which I disturbed and feel sure that was the problem. Tomorrow reset the idle and job done fingers crossed.
It is quite interesting watching the spark in my garage with the lights out, sure you have done that. Also noticed with the engine not running, just switch on the ignition and we see a spark and again when the ignition is turned off, not sure about that, maybe you can comment on that. Thank you Richard for all your help, you have no idea how much its been appreciated. especially when we have these problems and no one to turn to. |

glad all sorted - I used to have these HT neons in my AA van - proved invaluable then diagnosing cars.
problem was I left so many on the cars when a happy customer drove off into the sunset !!! the flash when turning the ignition off is normal - the primary winding in the coil 's magnetic field collapses when ignition off and in so collapsing creates a spark in the secondary and thence to plug. |
