A bit of spring sunshine makes most things shine :) but i'm pleased with how it looks.. the paint is quite old (ive known the bike for at least 12 years and its not been repainted) but still polishes up well.. I had it to bits most recently to get the frame powdercoated as that was getting quite bad in places, rewired it and added some polished bits :) Problem is that I really could do with something more suitable for short trips over country roads...

Not sure if ive posted these here before but there was a roadtest of a C&H in Biker magazine November1981 by Julian Ryder. He wasn't keen on the colour scheme (but look at his outfit in the picture ;)) and mentioned that it was only £200 less than the recently announced LM3... he also mention that the paint was falling off the wheels on TUR699W (which still exists according to the DVLA site)

Sounds about right on the wheel paint! It was flaking off my B&G MkII when I collected it new from OME in late '81. Reg is SUD ***X. Noel

I have just joined the forum and thought I would add a few things here....I have a Black/Gold. I also have the C&H full page bike advert and the Bike magazine 5 pager that features the LM11; 900SS and R100.
My LM11 is still pretty much original in terms of the parts on it. Even the switchgear. The things that aren't original I put on in 1986 including the Lafranconis and the Konis and a Lucas Rite ignition system. 1999-2000 saw lead-free heads and a deep sump both courtesy of Raceco. Some parts were refinished, including the wheels, but most of it is as it was including the callipers and discs. Seals have been replaced though, as have all other service stuff over time..... I made the mistake on putting a 120 section tyre on the back rim. It now fouls the centre stand slightly when it is being flipped up so that will have be changed sometime this year when time and the law allows.

The trouble with rear tyres is that there are 120s and 120s!! They are not all the same, as you might imagine! I had this with another bikes where I had 2 identical rear wheels with 180/55 tyres on. The Pirelli was an exact 180mm and the Michelin 191mm. Huge difference in profile too. The same model of Pirelli in a nominal 190/55 came in at 188mm! In the fronts, again same rims, the difference was 116 - 124mm. Go figure.

I recently bought a cali 1100i rear wheel and tyre where the 130/90/17 tyre measured 143mm wide! About 3mm wider than the 140/80/17 currently fitted.

One thing to also consider is go outside of OEM recommendations could invalidate insurance. To be fair the EV cali is not as stable at lower speeds as the V1000 all due to the fatter rear tyre If I could I would go down to 110 on the rear. The Tonti frame was designed to handle with "skinny" tyres.
There is no advantage at all increasing the width of the rear tyre.

Just fitted Conti radials to my LM2; I emailed Conti technical, who recommended a 120 on the back, but I went with the 110 after talking to someone on the Guzzitech forum who's run them.

hi all, my Black & gold LM II is nearly ready to put back on the road, after a respray, new lafranconis, rebuilt Marzocchis, and a very expensive service a couple of years ago (pre-lockdown). Next job on the list is stainless steel braided brake hoses. Gutsibits no longer sell these due to quality problems with the manufacturer. Does anybody know where a good quality kit can be sourced ? thanks |

I used HEL stainless lines on my T3 and my 900ss, just gave them the lengths and they were made up to order. Loads of suppliers across the UK and excellent quality.
