if it is the hydraulic valve one contact Opie on their web page as they require a very specific 5/40 fully synthetic oil ....if not then the 20/50 IS  wrong ...... easy to ask opie on their web page .....

Comprehensive Guzzi manual here for Cali EV 1997 to 2000: http://www.thisoldtractor.com/mg_manuals/workshop_manual_california_it_fr_es.pdf says 3 litres of Agip 4T Super racing SAE 20W/50.

Maybe Google around and try and find an equivalent? Or check Guzziology..

Trouble is the Guzzi manual shows the same for a hydraulic valve EV and THAT IS CERTAINLY WRONG! my advice go to the Opie website and ask them they will get back within 24 hrs  Very helpful with the Ev hydraulic valve as ordinary , hic 5/40 fully synth is not always correct for that bike it needs a very specific oil HOWEVER  the standard top end set up ought to run fine on 20/50 Agip or that equivalent oil

I always used 10W40. Certainly better in winter.

i put in 15/50 , the recommended oil is too thin and makes the bike as noisy as a non-hydro bike .
