Not much progress to report this week, as its too blooming cold out in the garage for me to want to spend much time in there. But at least I've made a start on the dreaded electrics at last..

Its too cold in my garage to working on the Guzzi, but with the surprising success of my DIY paint job, I decided to paint a couple of helmets. Both had been given a custom paint job a few years ago by a local place (since closed), and in both cases I wasn't really happy with the result. One is a Davida Jet and the other my old Simpson Super Bandit, the latter also having a gained a few scuffs and scratches over the years.

After a few hours of sanding, masking and a few coats of rattle primer, I sprayed the Simpson Ducati Red, mainly cos I had a spray can left over from a previous project. Then a dug out a big envelope full of old decals that I'd bought but never got around to using, including a full MHR decal set and a few random Ducati decals, none of which were the right size sadly. But all was not lost, as I also found a pair of Scuderia NCR (Famous Italian Raceshop) decals, which I cut in half and used on the Simpson. I now need to order some smaller Ducati decals, not sure what, but probably the classic 70's style and work out what other graphics it needs, if any. The paint doesn't look like much at the moment, but when its lacquered (I'll use Spraymax 2K again), it should look a lot better.

While the Davida is now gloss black, and will hopefully be getting some cool gold pin stripping if I don't mess it up, along with a Guzzi decal or two. I bought the Davida from the factory years ago as they're only ten miles away, its a factory second a got for half price. A bargain at the time, as the only damage was a tiny scratch in the paint.

Finished the DIY paintjob on my old Simpson, turned out ok considering I used rattle cans. My fingers ache now from the hours spent cutting back the lacquer with rubbing compound to give it a reasonable finish. I'll probably do more, but not for awhile. Next job is to paint my Davida with a Guzzi inspired paintjob..

Finished the Guzzi inspired paintjob on my Davida this week, though in this pic it still needs to be cut back and polished with rubbing compound. Now its done, I think the gold stripe is a bit too wide, so next time I'm bored I may repaint it ... again.

Progress on the Guzzi has slowed right down, but for a good reason. Last week, collected a new long term 'project'...  Wink

I think you'll need some good quality primer for that.  And if you thought your fingers were sore after rubbing down the last helmet, this job will take them down to the bone  Wink

Worst thing our last dog did was chew up a complete arm chair, plus the stair carpet.
