Ok

With my new found knowledge of all things electricity I thought I may have made it off the dumb step, but alas it appears not.

My diagram clearly shows 9 wires coming out of the switch.

My switch only has 4.

Such an adventure

Cheers

Righto

Is it me?

Just checked Gregory Bender wiring harness site and he shows 4 wires for the right hand switch.

So is my wiring diagram wrong or am I reading it wrong please, just don’t make sense to me.

Cheers

Probably no help seeing as I have a V50 but your set up look like mine, four wires, two for the starter, two for the kill switch. My light switch is on the left hand side.

The four wires is for the Cali II, not the Cali III.

And the Cali III for comparison.

So it would appear you have the Cali II setup.

Do you know that someone hasn't changed the actual switches on your Cali III?

Yeah, I think we need a photo of the actual switch for firm diagnosis

Thanks everyone.

I do despair but confusion reigns.

This is the link to the Gregory Bender site where he sells new harnesses and for the Cali 3 he shows the 4 pined one. So I am very confused.

Nope no idea what has transpired before on this bike and it appears a bit butchered anyway.

Just checked frame number again and Cali 3, to be sure so I don’t have a clue what switch I have. GRegory Bender says 4 pin, bike has 4 pin but Brains link to Cali 2 diagram shows 4 pin.

Here is a pic of the face of the switch, hopefully someone may be able to identify it because I know now sorry.

Just for sanity sake here is a pic of the left hand and it has 9 wires and the 9 pin Molex block.

Any help would be fab

Cheers

Ian

This isn't too surprising, Guzzi often did a bit of mix and match, so older components were fitted until the supply ran out.

What you have is certainly the earlier switches, and I'm sure the same were fitted to my Spada III, which was in most parts identical to the Cali III.

So for that part of the wiring, refer to the earlier diagram.
Just scroll down this list and chose any around that time. But the 1988 1000 SP seems closest, with four on the right and 9 on the left.

Cheers Brian

Appreciate it, without a doubt the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I’ve not even started yet. Keep putting off hitting the VWP buy button in case I’ve missed off anything I need or get the wrong size cables.

I’m sure one day soon I’ll sleep

Could not have got this far without you guys and I actually think wiring diagrams are starting to make sense. (Just).

Cheers

Wiring diagrams are simple - once you understand the basic principles and then understand what the circuit is trying to acheive.
Lighting is fairly straighforward, as is ignition usually, but things like voltage regulators do catch many out. However in your case the system you have should be easier.
By the way, what alternator is fitted? It might be a Saprisa or a Ducati. There are subtle differences in the way they are wired up.

I have the following fitted, thought pictures would say a thousand words, and actually I don’t know. Cry

There that’s all the electrical bits.

That's a strange combination. That alternator will not match your Cali III diagram. But ok on the V1000 SP one
The Motoplat ignition is right for that age.

Magneti coil would be original too.
