Guzzi had three attempts to get the flat tappets to work.

The forst were far too soft and most failed quickly. The second version was only marginally better.
The third variation had a different profile and were harder. These did last much better, but there were still a few failures.

According to Guzzi all engines were rollerised during 2012, but that's the manufacturing date, and many older models were in shops not sold.

So when you say it's a 2013 bike, is that the date of manufacture or first registration?
Brian.

Better 5 minutes late in this world than years early in the next.

Must be date of reg Brian because the guy has changed the cams/followers out for rollers at 29k miles, pics show the followers with up to half of the black surface changed to shiny but cams look ok - so could be not much has gone round the engine. - As you say a later version of flats so lasted better ?
I have read that the black surface is the DLC (diamond like coating) and if this is gone then it has been pumped around the engine poss wearing big ends etc.  Other experts have said this has only gone shiny but surface still intact and should be fine. Seems you can find whatever truth you are looking for !
Such a shame Guzzi cock things up like this as the bikes are so addictive.
Just got back on my Griso 1100 after an ECU change and electricery overhaul and it all seems to to be running well. - Forgot how great it was to ride with that Termi.
