It’s the apparent change in attitudes that bothers me when folks take the time and trouble to try and be helpful. Sadly I think we are all probably getting used to not being thanked for posting answers to some members questions. But that’s the way it is, some just seem to feel that by joining the forum they are somehow entitled.

Let’s say for instance someone has a strange noise and asks for help to trace it. The chances of a successful result depend to a great extent on the writer’s ability to accurately describe the noise and their level of mechanical understanding to identify it as an actual problem. As many of you will recognise, the main difficulty in responding to such a question arises from trying to imagine and diagnose a problem remotely.

In all types of research there can be many theories offered but only by a process of careful elimination will the most likely answer be found. Unless of course, a totally unrelated and irrelevant suggestion is made, such as a recipe for a Victoria sponge is presented to solve a braking issue. Even that may not be considered entirely “unhelpful”. The positive side would be the acquisition of a recipe for a very tasty cake.

I’ll miss the grown ups, even RL1!LOL

With regards to your first paragraph, I can only wholeheartedly agree, especially the 'getting used to not being thanked' bit.

We have all asked questions on here, some very basic, we all have to start somewhere, we're not born knowing how to do things , we learn and hopefully progress and pass on our knowledge' and some more technical'.  I like to add a thanks, BUT, I'm not sure I've always pressed the Thanks button, not through any lack of courtesy but simply because I've maybe forgotten to do so for one reason or another , age????

The forum has, luckily, not been infested with too many antagonistic posters apart from one, 'he who was red carded', even at that he had many chances and still didn't take heed so deserved all he got, his loss, certainly not mine!

Kate has also gone a bit quiet, I think it's May since she was last on, her contributions, as yours,  were always worthwhile.

Maybe take a wee break, away from the grown ups LOL, we all need one from time to time.

What I can't believe though is the fact you have decided to leave after all the help you've been given learning how many things you can do with an ironing board!!!!!!!LOL

it is a pity to loose someone who has been a regular and valued contributor, i do hope you will reconsider.  as Baldric says all forums have issues of politeness at times, best just to ignore them and help the ones who actually want help.

Kate has been quiet over on MGCGB as well, but she appears to be  still active at rallies etc so maybe just fancies some time out from the forums

Seriously though, corresponding on forums is no substitute for real human contact. Sometimes things are written that comes across strong when that wasn't the intent...

Don't be a stranger, this forum's well moderated. The more the merrier I sayHug

All the best, Pete.

That's a bummer.

There are so few soaring intellects that know about ironing boards.

From what I can see on the screen everybody has zero thanks between Post Options and Quote..

So how does it work?

Aww, shucks! Too kind, too kind!Embarrassed

Re read the last thing I wrote and it does seem a bit whiney, but I still think there are so many givers on this forum and then some who will never appreciate any effort put in to helping them out. Maybe I need to take some time out from bikes for a while.

Ya'll take care and have some fun.Thumbs Up

just caught up with this and with tongue very firmly in cheek I'd really like to thank Bob for letting us know that he's leaving.  He could have just dropped out silently like the posters that he refers to. JOKE

Seriously Bob, you are a heavyweight here and many more of us than you probably realise really appreciate your efforts.

Long may you lurk and interject.
