Since I've had my Griso, I've noticed a bit of oil seepage around the L/H side of the engine.
I quickly found the source, and found that the two nuts securing the the flange to the casing were finger tight, so I tightened them down and thought that was that. I've just noticed it's still leaking. Not very much, but enough to run down the side of the engine. Here is what appears to be the offending part (number 39 in the diagram) which is a gasket obviously. What's the betting this is going to be a nightmare to get ordered. The infuriating this is that the Guzzi parts list described this gasket as an O Ring, which clearly it isn't. The following link from a Guzzi parts specialists confirms the error. Does this look like what's on the diagram to you. Looks like it's a trip to Halfords for some instant gasket. Edited by vmaxer - 17 May 2015 at 13:00 |

Could always make your own gasket which would be a better option.

Just greasing the gasket should be sufficient.

I took it apart today.
Bit of a bugger because to get decent access to the part, you need to remove the R/H down pipe, Anyway, it actually is an O ring. It's kind of pressed into a groove. Bit naff. In the picture though, I think you'll agree that part 39 does look more like a gasket than an O ring. Anyway, when I took part 18 off, (which is the part the O ring sits in), a piece of the O ring fell out onto the floor. Probably wasn't seated properly in the factory and was snagged when it was being fitted. Would explain the leak. |

I was going to say it IS an O ring.
Had the same problem on my Norge. Clean the whole thing carefully including that O ring, then put some (clear) silicone sealant in the groove, then lightly press the O ring into the groove. Then bolt the breather back onto the timing chest. You might get away with this method even though the O ring is in two parts.

Done, although I'm not sure what you mean about the O ring being in 2 parts.

If a piece of the O ring fell to the floor, clearly the thing is in at least two parts.

A piece did drop out, but as I said, I suspect it wasn't seated properly in it's groove in the factory, and got snagged and broken when the union was torqued up. The leak is very minor, and most likely wasn't even spotted by the previous owner. |

When mine went, it was dripping off the sump.

Mine wasn't that bad. In fact very minor. It was running down the side of the engine, where it met the the frame tube, and from there the wind blew it back into the engine fins. I just noticed a black trail on the frame that re appeared each time I wiped it off, and black oil residue on the cylinder fins. |

I put the old broken one back in two pieces, carefully and I backed it up with silicone gasket in the groove as Brian suggested. I do have another one on order, but my bodge seems to have worked and it's dried up.
