Racer V7 mk2 Took her out of hibernation today started first time selected first gear and lever disappeared. Bolt sheared at gear lever coupling. Anyone else experienced this?

So further to this linkage repaired under warranty.  Dealer carried out an annual servive (3000 miles) and I received a phone call today to tell me that there was no air filter fitted!

Personally I think the bike was delivered from Italy like this as I don't think there is a requirement to check the air filter during the PDI and at the initial service.  More importantly what are the ramifications of running the engine for 3000 miles without an air filter fitted?

Appreciate your thoughts.

I had plenty of British bike without air filters, no problem, but all it takes is a few bits of grit to cause damage. If it ain't smoking and rattling you've got away with it. Some engines run erratic without the air filter, it upsets the tuning, so you might have a sweeter engine now.

Not checked at the first service either then I guess? I think you must be right, Guzzi quality control still not all it could be?

Close to none whatsoever - guessing it was still connected to the air box so its just possible you may have got some grit that went straight out the exhaust again but the air box would have filtered anything significant.

Lots of engines are run for years with nothing but a large mesh to keep pebbles out, many with no mesh just open trumpets. When you strip them down after you can see the difference with the odd pin scratch on the cylinder wall but not much else.

Thanks for your replies. Apparently there is no requirement to check air filter during PDI and first service. Dealer contacted Guzzi who said it would be extremely unlikely that bike was shipped without one in. As I purchased new long distance and had bike delivered I can only surmise that first dealer needed to borrow filter and never got around to replacing it.  Servicing dealer did state that one of the air box cover screws was not original. Go figure?
