I tested my reg/ rect and from metre readings it as gone so ordered new one from M&P
How many connctors you got from your reg/ rect ? You got 2 to alternator plus red into main feed plus blk & white to ignition and warning light?

According to the wiring diagram, there are two yellow wires to the alternator, 2 green ones connected to earth (black) and two red/white connected to two red/green which go to battery positive via a 30A fuse.

Have you checked that fuse?

The regulator is item 18 on the diagram. It seems on the B750, the charge warning light is controlled by the dash.

Hi Johnno,
There are 2 yellow and 4 others to a separate connector block. There was a number on the black rubber were the wires come out of the regulator and old and new match.
I checked all fuses and all are good.Only thing I can move is the earth that I added on the regulator.
Really doing my nut in. This is my baxkup bike for my trip to Italy which I leave on Saturday.
Let me know how you get on.
John
Thanks
John

Well if those two wires are already connected to earth, you probably don't need the case earthing too.

What are those 4 other wires?

I'm sure he said they were. More interested in where the other 4 go. It won't be the same as yours.

Brian now I got clear picture of his type . Could he not put onto output volt and see if voltage is leaving reg/ reg if it is then problem would be somewhere to battery . If you agree could you explain better than I can ,I hopeless with the written word

It's very difficult diagnosing problems like this at a distance.

John, have you made any progress?

You have checked there is AC volts out of the alternator. Is this without the rectifier connected? Does the voltage drop when the rec is connected?
You say there is nothing out of the regulator, presumably this is without the battery connected. What happens if the battery is connected?
Brian.

Morning all,

I have not looked at it for a couple of days. I go my road trip tomorrow to Italy for Lambretta's 70th anniversary rally. Hopefully all is good with the scoot and I don't need my back up being the Guzzi. Our route brings us down the East side of Lago Como so I will give the factory a wave.

I was getting 25v out the alternator not being connected to the regulator. When I do collect it there is a distinct change in tone/revs of the bike. I have always had the battery connected and before this issue it would charge to about 14.5v but now it only seems to pick up the current voltage in the battery. I may have time today to give it a quick look later and recheck fuses etc - It is only the 30a fuse that would stop anything but those are both ok.
My mind is boggling!!
Thanks
John

Must admit I'm confused by all this, and it's not mine. So I can understand how you feel.

Hi all,
back from a 2100 mile trip on my Lambretta to Adria, just South of Venice. A plug change was all that was required on something I built myself.
Anyway, I am ready to try again tomorrow morning with the bike. Will let you know how I get on.

John
Thanks
John

Hi John,

A few things to check/try:

Stator resistance~ 0.2~0.3 ohms

Idle alternator o/p ~ 20 v ac

4000 rpm o/p ~ 60v ac

If these are all good check the rec/reg o/p at the dc connector ~ 13.5~ 14.5

If this good you have a high resistance twixt this connector and battery. Confirm this by very carefully connecting a jumper lead from this connector positive to battery positive, this should prove one way or t'other
.
Good luck, please be carefull doing the jumper lead, use decent cable and possibly put a fuse in it.

Regards,

John

As a note not read all this BUT the ducati style reg rect DO dump excess to earth so a top tip was to add earth straps to BOTH fixing bolts
