Hi all,

Your expert knowledge required again.

After fixing my charging problems earlier this year due to corroded connectors I once again have the issue again.

I have checked the connectors and they are spotless, but it is still only charging at 12.05volts.

Is that therefore now the regulator failed?
So is the pattern ones that M&P sell for £59.99 ok?

Your assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks

John
Thanks

If you have a multimeter, you can check the resistance/continuity of the stator windings, and check there is no short to the frame.

Disconnect the rectifier and regulator, run the engine and with the voltage set to AC, see what volts are on the stator output wires. should be around 25V AC.

Hi Brian,

Checked the output and at 120 rpm it is 25v as stated and increased as the revs go up.
So it must be the regulator. The M&P ones ok?

Thanks

John

Yes, alternator part is obviously working. Just make sure all earths are good, on the regulator case for instance.

Hi Brian,

I got the M&P replacement in today. It is a Electro Sport model ESR530. The first thing I noticed was 3 yellow wires instead on the two currently on the defunct Ducati one. So what do I do with an extra yellow? Do two get joined together? If so how do I determine what ones?

Thank you for your assistance.

John
Thanks

Sorry to tell you but that is not the correct replacement. It must be for a 3 phase alternator like the Bosch. It won't work on the Ducati type.

I'm sure one of the Electrex ones fits. Shame M&P give so little information about these units.

Tried Electrex but this one is out of stock.
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=guzzi%20moto&PN=RR451%2ehtml#SID=265?aRR451

Looks like I will have to wait 2 weeks until they come in at Gutsibits.

Tried M&P but that is the only one they stock which is not viable with the Ducati system.
Thanks all
John
