As an ex HGV driver I can only agree with Tony G re wages but there may be a bit more to this; leaving the EU, Covid and more home working causing a drop off in consumption? You maybe surprised to learn how small a part of an oil companies profits come from selling fuel.

Well the weekly price rises in fuel must be helping their profits.

From what little knowledge I have it appears that fuels are almost a waste product after all the good stuff has been extracted. In the early days of the oil business they used to burn off the volatiles until someone had the bright idea of using it to run an engine. When you consider the infrastructure needed to process and distribute it the profits are actually marginal. Don't forget the biggest winner from the pump price of fuel is the tax man. With the desperate push towards electric vehicles, (the next biggest scam) don't expect the price of fuels to remain at present levels as the government struggles to make up the tax revenue shortfall.

We all should be hoping that hydrogen power takes off significantly before getting rid of all those massive and incredibly toxic redundant batteries becomes the next major polluting problem.Unhappy

Have you seen their prices though!

£1.56 for diesel on the M3 a couple of days ago. £1.34 further along at Esso!

Where's the Esso fuel stop? I thought there was only BP and Shell.
