I’ve long hankered after a double bass. In the mid ‘50’s I played a Fender Precision Bass, and now fancy a Fender Jazz bass, or perhaps a Rickenbacker, but to be honest I wouldn’t do them justice.  I’ve heard 12 year olds that blow me into the weeds!  Regarding Fender, I wouldn’t know which one to buy, as I believe they’re made in USA, Mexico, Japan or Brazil.  Also I’ve heard there’s a lot of fakes on the market.
My expensive bass is a locally made Zootbass chaser, the cheapie being a Westone Thunder 1A.
All good fun!

I´m sure you´re right Dave, if I thought I was deserving of a Martin or a Gibson I would expect something of outstanding quality. As good, or better than the best Chinese instruments. And many times the price.
I make do with a Japanese Fender F35 from the late Seventies, anything better would be wasted on me, but mostly I play a Chinese copy of an 18th century Parlour Guitar, which is hotly coveted by my music teacher, a professional Flamenco guitarist. It is a totally faithful copy, and as far as I know, not available from anywhere else. I paid 350 Euros, second hand.
China has over two hundred cities with over a million inhabitants, whereas Europe has seventy-some. I think I´ve barely scratched the surface of what´s available. They are putting good quality instruments into the hands of people who could not otherwise afford them, and I feel that´s worth supporting with my business.
Until a cheap Martin comes along ...

I agree with your sentiments completely Ben I was just pointing out that although the instruments are well-made they still have a way to go getting the sound.Electric guitars I know nothing about

Are we going American? Talking of fenders instead of mudguards?
Brian.
