If that happens, I would say the battery was faulty. It's not the norm. A battery that self discharges in two weeks is certainly not right.

Yes it is puzzling. The fact that it's not the first to suffer would suggest it's not the battery, but I can't suggest any other cause, the only way is to remove the earth cable from the battery and connect an ammeter between the battery and cable to see if there is any drain.

I have experienced this draining issue since adding Neutral and Gen idiot light to my dashboard (as per an older post)
Hopefully I will source the parasite element asap.

Thanks

+1 on parasitic drains.

Happened to me, a faulty regulator/ rectifier was slowly draining the battery and eventually damaged it.

Here is how to do the test

Then I guarantee it's something to do with that. Try removing both bulbs, or better still, one at a time, see which is causing the problem.
Something isn't right in the way they have been wired up.

The electromechanical voltage control unit has a mechanical cut out in the form of a set of contact points which when the ignition is turned off open and disconnect the battery from the charging system. If the contact points fail to open the battery will drain but I don't know how quickly this would happen.I believe it would take a few hours.

If it leaves the rotor coil live then maybe adding the lamp will have allowed the drain. Without the charge warning light then there would be no drain through the rotor.

That appears to be the case Brian. To check the cutout points the regulator cover can be removed and the points inspected.
