Decided to buy one of those little lithium jump starter batteries. One which came up well in tech reviews was the Suaoki P6.
Found it on Amazon for just under £70, much cheaper than elsewhere, being sold through Amazon by Suaoki EU.

Bought it and was almost made to take a month's free membership of Amazon Prime (couldn't see a way to avoid) but that did give me free next day delivery.

Bought it and waited. Then got an email saying the delivery was delayed. Should have been last Saturday, but might be Wednesday now.

On wednesday got another email saying there had been an "unexpected error". Turns out the package had got to the local Amazon warehouse in Weybridge, about 1.5 miles from here. It had then just dissapeared.

Offered a straight refund.

Eventually managed to contact customer services on the chat line. Very difficult to actually find a human there, lots of hoops to jump through.

Told of my dissapointment with the next day delivery and the fact that Amazon staff were clearly helping themselves to customer's goods. They won't offer a replacement when another company is selling through Amazon, only a refund, but also then offered £4 as compensation. I pointed out that it would cost me a lot more than £4 to get the item elsewhere.
After consulting with the supervisor they raised it to £10.

So now to try to find another one.
Brian.

Shame, I don't normally have much trouble with Amazon. But yeah avoid Prime like the plague. For some obscure reason it's impossible to buy batteries in small quanitites (I mean, AAA, AA, D, and like that, not bike / car batteries LOL ) without signing up to Prime. And a few other kinds of things.

What annoys me most is that you get railroaded into joining Prime when you buy something. I thought I had gone ahead without joining, but it still came up.
I thought the rules were that these things had to be actively joined, not the default option.

Ok, I like Amazon Prime 'cos it's one of the few ways now of getting something decent to watch on the TV! Since most of the terrestrial channels have apparently given up on entertaining or even enlightening  programs, (ITV with Vera and Endeavour being exceptions IMHO!), then Prime has some good stuff on it for those of us who are not big fans of the SKY monopoly. So it is actually a bit more than getting stuff you don't need but ordered anyway delivered the next day.

Argh, you mentioned Sky! Go wash your mouth out with soap and water. LOL

Yes, I know Prime is a bit more than free next day delivery. For me that would make the "free" delivery very expensive.

+1.

I pay £7.95 a month and that gives me as much choice on TV as I could possibly want.

In addition, I needed a new return spring for the tailgate handle on my obnoxious , people killing, chauvinistic billy big balls show off Volvo XC90 ( see what I did there ) . I ordered some suitable off Amazon Prime on Sunday at 3pm and had them in my possession by Monday afternoon.

Pretty good all in all.

I suppose it all comes down to availability of services. You're lucky Brian, you have a good choice of services and retail outlets where you are. Our choices in this Third World area of the UK are remarkably limited. I can't get Virgin tv and broadband 'cos they can't get their cable across private land, and trying to buy a carpet or floor rug that doesn't run the risk of electrocution when you walk on it involves a journey of around 20 miles. We have a good range of pebbles though, and I'm informed that the view of the distant Worthing wind farm is quite good on a clear day.Cry

Just a point re batteries - I get mine (plus things like cable ties, brake cleaner etc) from CPC. Free delivery on orders over £8 (pre-VAT). Excellent prices and always next day delivery.

You were lucky! We 'ad to get up four hours before we went to bed.......

But seriously, it's the same here. BT Plus broadband costing a mortgage a month and I can't even watch Youtube without it buffering. If I ever lost my driving license I would be stuffed.
