So my V35ii came with two side panels... One was for a completely different bike altogether - maybe a Honda from looking at the part number on the back, bodged to fit with lots of baling wire and epoxy. The other was once a genuine Guzzi part, but its more filler and fibreglass repair matting than actual panel. Crumbled apart in my hands...

What's everyone else done for side panels, apart from buying replacements from the usual sources? Thinking of making up some brackets to fit a piece of 4mm alu, or using a bit of perforated steel with bar stock tacked onto the back for reinforcement.

I've toyed with idea of making side panels, even bought a pair of oval racing plates but decided they were too small.  Just google Guzzi images for ideas - some look good and some just awful.

What's always put me off moving away from standard is thinking how easily they can be removed at the roadside (should you need to).

Gutsibits appear to have reproduction ones. Search "side panel" in "V35 ALL, V50 ALL"

I think the standard ones look quite good but I wish the tabs that hold the grommet at the bottom were a bit stronger......

well surprising nobody after my radical ideas on delinking the brakes.....

I am doing away with all side panels in order to have a open space at the back of the engine. I think it looks much cleaner and lightens the look of the bike......... I know its not original but.... well ....!

However this does come with a penalty i.e. the space was full of battery and electronics.

The brakes can stay as they are high and a few runs of stainless braided hose looks good.

The battery is a relatively easy swap for a lithium with the same cranking power but a lot smaller and lighter so it can be lost under the seat. The electrics they are heading under the tank (it now has a longer tank).

That does leave me with two quite newish side panels (one is missing a lug) that could help me fund more bits for the project ..... ?

The alternative I was considering for a while, before going minimal was the alloy or plastic oval race number plates that cover the space very well mounted on some p clips. max (£15 off eBay) and nods at the style of the v7 cafe racer
