I have good memories of the A303, the overtime from working on the Ilminster bypass paid for my first Guzzi and several holidays to Italy on it.
A couple of weeks before the road opened My girlfriend and I were out on my BSA B33 one evening when an unmarked police car pulled us over. "Don't you think you should be wearing helmets" the first cop said as he got his little book out. "No, I work here and I've just been out to check something" I replied. "Well don't you think It's dangerous" he said a little flustered. "No, yours is the only other vehicle around" The second cop found the whole thing as funny as I did, unlike his red faced collegue.

If you get the chance try the A68.Corbridge to Edinburgh.Around 100 miles of open road with few populated obstructions to interrupt the flow.
Back in the seventies before speed camera's etc riding your Bonnie or Commando or what have you on that road was a Sunday's outing.
Can somebody turn back the clock please?

I saw that a few months ago - interesting little documentary.

ANDROID, remember, its the journey that makes the trip, often better than the destination LOL   I think many of us have fond memories of our first bikes & the fun we had on them - whether it's just rose tints, or the follies of youth ???

Looks like I have to slum it up here with a very poor choice of good roads in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

None of you would like it up here, the scenery is terrible and everywhere is so congested.

As mentioned by Dave P, the A68 Corbridge to Edinburgh is great although I often peel left at Carter Bar

and then ride around the edge of Kielder Water

before heading back towards Durham.

Do yourselves a favour and stay away.LOL

Well, if thats not enough, carry on from the  303  to the A30 to Exeter, then get on the  B 3212 over Dartmoor & Moretonhampstead, down to Falmouth or carry on to Penzance.
Magic in nice weather.  Or, In a car, in bad weather !
Middle o Dartmoor is not clever on a motorcycle, if a thunderstorm is building.

Had my first ever breakdown on Dartmoor.
Honda 250 Superdream in 1982.
A sheep ran in the road in front of me, and I had to hit the brakes hard.
Bike stalled and wouldn't re-start.
Waited ages for a car to come by, and eventually flagged a Woman down and asked if she could call the AA on my behalf and my parents when he got home.
Nice lady - she did it.
An hour later, AA man turned up, couldn't fix it, so had to arrange for a recovery vehicle.
Waited 2 hours with my Dad before recovery truck turned up.
By then, it was dark and pouring down.
AA got the bike to my parents house, and next day, we phoned the local Honda dealer to pick up bike.
Guy turned up, took a cursory look over the bike, and just flicked the handlebar kill switch back to on.
I must have knocked it to off when I panic brakes.
Bike started first press.
Uh Hum
