Thinking of taking out my 30mm Carbs to 34mm, i'm ok with that, but is there any other machining that needs to be done, in particular in the body where the slide bottoms out and the brass tube sits ?.
Just wondered if anyone on here has done this Cheers Chill |

It might end up cheaper and easier to buy some 34's off evilbay, as to the machining question I can't help there. What bike is it?

Are the slides the same size regardless of choke size?

Thanks for the replies
I already have the carbs and can machine them meself so cost isn't a problem, slides will be the same, no machining there.

Just trying to get a tad more go out of my T3, RaceCo reckon that boring out a 30mm to 34 is a good upgrade for the small valve big block motors without doing anything else to it + its the time of year for tinkering .
I already have an uprated G5 which has a fair few costly upgrades to it, just want to give the ole T3 a bit more get up and go, i don't want a huge increase in power, just making her even more long legged and easy going.

OK, does the 34mm carb as standard use the same slide cutaway as the 30mm one?

Because if it doesn't, mixture will be wrong after boring it out.
Another problem I've got with this is, hidden galleries, so you could potentially bore it out bigger and break into an air gallery or petrol feed, then it's foooked |

I've just remembered, many years ago, someone saying "if you want it to go faster give it more of that" - 'that' being accompanied by twistgrip turning mime |

Yes i realise that throttle openings and jets will be different, as will the inlet stub, i'm prepared to go with that and sort it .
RaceCo bored out 30mm carbs to 34 with supposedly good results, i was just a wondering if anyone else had done it on here and had some first hand advice. I can twist the throttle on my BSA M21 as far as it will go, still just chuffs along, likewise with a T3 but maybe a tad faster

Sounds interesting. I have a set of round 32mm pumpers off a Ducati sitting around that are supposed to go well with the S3 I have, but I never get round to finding out, plus it goes well anyway!

Ok then folks ! just took off the 30mm alloy manifolds on my T3 and to my surprise the size of the inlet duct to the valve was approx 33.75mm on both heads, have they been opened up in a previous life from 30mm or is that the standard size ?
Looks like my enthusiastic plunge into opening up the 30mm carb bodies to 33/34mm will be on hold, not quite as simple as i once thought |

I can measure mine for you next week. I still reckon a set of round 32mm pumpers will do what you're looking for.
