People,

Are there two types of centre stand. I see one advertised that has a triangle in its bracing for the foot lever part. Whereas mine is more solid with a circular hole.

My foot bit is landing on the ground unsettling the stability so that means the arm is bent. 60000 miles of on and off the stand.

I think the stops are worn on your stand so it goes too far forward.

Remove it and put a blob of weld on the stop point each side, then file it down until the fit is right.

Of course if it had been an early Norton Commando, the frame tube the stand was fitted to would have twisted, rendering the stand both useless and rather dangerous as it hung down too far when "up". I was the one who pointed that out to the Norton factory.
Brian.

Thanks Brian, considered that option as I've done it on G5 a few times. But now I have no access to a welder and the one shown was 32 quid inc. P&P. So i bought it so I did. According to replies on Guzzitech this was a tech bulletin update .

The centre stand on my Stelvio was replaced under warrantee, apparently one broke in America. My bike was new in 2011 so it was between then and 2013

Ther triangle between the LH leg and the cross member was the only difference I could see, the original one had a single triangulat fillet above the cross bar and the replacement one has a fillet below as well. My new one is the same as the top photo, the bracing to the foot lever as well.

Another suggestion was block of metal under the foot bit. Apply heat to the stand and let the weight of the bike sink the stand back down. Worked a treat so it did.

A great solution Min, I had missed the part about the foot lever, and was commenting on the triangular stiffener plates that Guzzi had to double up, apparently after a claim in the USA when a main stand broke.

Can't take credit in any way for the solution. Thanks Baldrick.  Glad I invested in a mappgas torch earlier in the year. Hopefully it won't immediately bend due to.my heat treatment. Didn't quench it as I thought it may go brittle. Wee spray of Rockeze while it was hot to keep the rust at bay for a week or two
