The dip beam cut-off seemed far too low when I first got the bike.  I've now got it about right, and it's been through several MOTs.  High beam, however, is now up in the trees on the nearside.  There doesn't seem to be any way to angle the beams independently.  Can anyone shed any light Clap on this or a remedy - apart from fitting extra lights?

It would be a reasonable headlamp, if only the light would shine where its needed.  To be honest I haven't needed to ride after dark more than about three times, but I can understand why in daylight a driver on the other side of the road might sit there looking at me while I'm prodding away on the flasher to invite them on.

Sounds like the bulb isn't fitted in its holder correctly
simple to check .......Once you take the fairing off

I had to do this on my 1100 sport ,it was easier to take headlight unit off to place bulb and holder in place

I'll certainly check for that - thanks.  Might be about time to swap in a couple of new bulbs anyway.  I tend not to leave it until one has blown, as once one did blow while starting the bike, and it was enough to pop a 20A fuse and upset the ECU momentarily.

If you are changing bulbs, consider the Osram Nightbreaker type (other makes also exist) because you get a lot more light out there - usually on the road. Wink

Agreed, it's far easier to remove the whole headlamp, just make sure you have three hands at least to not drop it

I'm running a Night Racer (64210NR-02B) at the moment, though can't recall what light output it has - it looks to have the same blue ring pattern as the current +110% version.

I think it was a Philips Motovision that blew.  It seemed quite good before that, and produced a distinctive orange glow within the headlamp.

What brand are people using for the H9 high beam?  (Osram seem to do one - 64213 - in their Original Line only.)

Two and half years on from last post here and I need to replace low beam. I've bought the Philips X-tremeVision +130 H7. I don't think the Night Racer is a current bulb. The RacingVision is theoretically brighter at +150 but gives less than half the life.

As for the H9 high beam, the only bulb still seems to be that Osram 'Original' H9 so I got that. No H9 upgrade for some reason.

Although there are loads of LEDs now, I thought it better to stay with halogens rather than LED or HID. Hoping for improved illumination from the current upgrade tech of the X-tremeVision.

Just check the voltage on the system when the engine is running at sort of road speeds, ie. not just tickover.
Problems have been identified in the wire carrying the alternator output to the battery, as in bad connections. There are joints buried in the harness, plus the fuse connections.
1 volt lost will equate to considerable light loss.

I changed the bulbs, Brian, and checked voltage. No voltage drop detected, rather a slight gain.
Showing on dash: 13.2V
Meter on battery: 13.6V
Meter at headlight: 13.79V
If I had had to check alternator connection, I was afraid of removing fuel tank – because of horrid fuel connector. I did lift tank to try, as I need to unblock the tank cap drains and need to check / replace the oil sensor... dreaded red triangle and code 7 dash error. Also check air filter. Fuel line disconnect was no go, of course. I will wait 'til tank is empty and try again, but it's a fearful business.

Just a tip, if you get the fuel line connection parted smear Vaseline over the tangs of the connector makes disconnecting next time much easier. If you can get the tank supported correctly you can fiddle the tangs back with a small screwdriver to get it to part not easy!!!
