Hi,
I've just joined the forum as I've recently bought a 1986 1000SP married up to a Regent sidecar. TBH I bought it 6 months ago just before we went into lockdown but only recently managed to collect it from less than a mile away from my home & get it tucked into my garage.

Its been sitting for quite a few years previous to me purchasing it but luckily its been in the dry which has stopped a lot of deterioration. Seeing as I've managed to restore another motorcycle & sidecar during lockdown the revised plan is to get the Guzzi up to Mot standard and then move it on to someone who hopefully will give it a good home in the near future.

Over the last couple of days I've gone through the rear/front linked braking system & rebuilt the compensator unit, replacing a broken bleed nipple in the process. This afternoon I filled the system with fresh brake fluid & now have a good footbrake.

Next items on the list are the carbs, as they are heavily clogged with a syrupy varnish. I've not got too far into them yet but it looks like they will at least need a fresh pair of V9 needles, as there's corrosion on the lower sections.

I'm looking forward to some input from those more knowledgeable in Guzzis as this is my first, so please feel free to comment if you think I need pointing in the right direction on occasion.
Mark

Welcome to the board.  You have a very classy looking sidecar rig that should be worth the trouble getting in proper running order.  Good luck sorting it out.

It does look like a well sorted outfit with its 15" wheels & leading link forks. I have the original bike & sidecar sales documents that show the Guzzi was delivered brand new to Regent to have everything fitted in early 1986.
Unfortunately I will have to part with this when I've got it back on the road, although I'm sure to manage a few rides out to shake it down ;)

Can anyone confirm if there should be an "O" ring & washer on the throttle stop screw & idle mixture screw please?
The Dellorto VHBT30C parts list shows these but none are fitted to my carbs. I've started to clean up the carbs & am about to put an order in at Eurocarb for some new needles plus all the rubber bits, gaskets & seals so could do with your advice.

I believe there should be, and I fit them. I was first confused by this omission in the parts list during my time with a Laverda GTL.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I'll pop them on the order.
On the bright side it was good to hold off ordering for a few hours as having gone over all the bits & pieces again with a 10x magnifying eye glass I spotted the atomisers that the needles run in were also quite corroded so I can get them on the order too.

Borrowed an ultrasonic cleaner (Ken, I am listening but hate outsourcing work if at all possible!) & gave the carb bodies a soak in there for a couple of hours after previously cleaning all the varnish out of them by hand which took some time.
Its taken a full day to strip & clean one carb so far, but they were pretty bad.
Does anyone have the float height setting please?

I don't think you should have o rings under the throttle stop screws. I fitted some during a clean and rebuild, and then wondered why I couldn't screw them in far enough to get an idle. I checked with Paddy Barrett at Ducatipaddy, well known vendor of all things Dellorto, and he confirmed that they shouldn't have o rings on the throttle stop screws.

VHB carbs are very obsolete massive increase using the round phb carbs but if you are flogging it get er running leave it to new owner best thing i ever did was carbs on the 76 V1000 way better pick up and top end way easier to set up
